   Résumé
   Un chien de traîneau poursuivi par un hélicoptère norvégien vient se réfugier dans une base américaine en Antarctique. Les Américains sont obligés d'abattre les Norvégiens qui semblent pris d'une folie meurtrière. Mais le chien, enfermé dans le chenil, se transforme en monstre abominable qui s'avère être une forme extraterrestre imitant les cellules des corps vivants.
   Commentaire
   Un remake amélioré de la Chose d'un autre monde de Hawks et Niby, mais aussi de Alien de Ridley Scott, qu'il n'égale pas. L'idée du film est que le mal est en nous et que nous sommes notre ennemi intime. Cette idée est merveilleusement soutenue par des effets spéciaux où les métamorphoses à vue ont une réalité organique écœurante mais étonnante, qui donnent la première équivalence valable de l'univers de Lovecraft au cinéma, dans le contexte d'une lutte entre les éléments naturels qui joue sur les contrastes feu-glace, neige-sang.
